The government of Japan offered a ¥572 million scholarship grant (Approximately Rs 541 million) to Nepal towards the Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS) project. It was signed by the Ambassador of Japan in Nepal, MAEDA Toru, and the Finance Secretary of Nepal, Ghanshyam Upadhyaya. The JDS also provides scholarships to Nepali government officials as a means to pursue master’s and doctoral degrees at leading Japanese academic institutions. Pleasantly, 187 officials have already benefited, and 22 others will start advancing their studies in Japan, this coming August. The purpose of the program is to develop leadership within the Nepalese civil service and to enhance the relationship between Nepal and Japan.
