Traders of gold and silver, as well as the artisans, have protested in Kathmandu on Wednesday against new tax policies on the industry. The demonstration, which was held after an appeal of the Nepal Gem and Jewellery Association and the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers Association, sought the end of the 13% VAT on diamonds and precious stones, and 2% luxury tax on gold. Traders of Bhaktapur too hopped onto the bandwagon and held a whistle rally to show solidarity and create awareness.
