The scrap dealers in Kathmandu have gone on strike, accusing Mayor Balen Shah of using the city police to harass the dealers through beatings, intimidation, and demolition of their premises. Outside the Kathmandu Metropolitan City office, they presented five-point demands, which included the right to run the trade, security for the workers, protection against the abusive police, and compensation for losses. The sit-in, in protest, has escalated, with traders vowing to go even larger in protest in incase their demands are not addressed.
