In Kathmandu Valley, another waste crisis is underway when locals at Bancharedanda halted garbage disposal, claiming that the government had not met a previous 18-point agreement. The citizens of Kakani municipality, Dhunibesi municipality, and Belkotgadhi municipality have blocked the waste trucks since Wednesday, demanding implementation of promises that were made by Mayor Balen Shah during his last visit, which included managing the odor and leachate and bettering local infrastructure.
Local representatives have also come to protest, claiming they will not permit garbage dumping and new development projects until the promises are kept, and accusing authorities of long-term negligence and indifference toward the health conditions of residents and their living situation.
