BYD Shifts to Local Parts in Brazil Factory in Bid for Market Leadership

BYD, a Chinese car manufacturer, plans to produce 50% of the car parts it uses in vehicles produced at its new factory in Brazil locally by the end of 2026. This strategy, as indicated, seeks a departure from an import dependent strategy. By so doing, the company seeks to comply with regulations, create 20,000 jobs, and even export vehicles to nearby countries. So far, it has manufactured 25,000 cars in the former Ford factory in Bahia and is investing heavily in this business to be the first in Brazil in car sales by 2030.
