However, the U.S. government turned down proposals made by the Ford Motor Company, together with other automakers, to reduce the tariffs on aluminum due to fires that affected a Novelis manufacturing facility located in Oswego, New York. This Novelis manufacturing facility is critical to the production of aluminum used in Ford’s F-150 trucks, in addition to serving other companies such as Stellantis and General Motors. Due to these problems, Novelis had to source aluminum from foreign countries, and it had to pay 50% duty. Ford’s profit was heavily impacted early this year.
