Army Sent to Kathmandu as Royalist Protesters Set Fires and Cause Damage

Pro-monarchy protesters set fires and damaged property in different parts of Kathmandu. In response, the Nepal Army was sent to the streets of Tinkune. A team led by Lieutenant Colonel Sandeep Gurung from the Rajdal Battalion was sent to Balkumari. The Kathmandu District Administration Office (DAO) announced a curfew in the Tinkune area. The curfew will last from 4 PM to 10 PM today.

After the curfew was announced, army soldiers were seen patrolling the streets. Many people believe this means a full military operation may start soon. At the same time, Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak held an urgent meeting with the chiefs of all four security agencies. The security committee advised stronger action. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is expected to hold a Cabinet meeting at 8 PM. The government may decide to officially send the army to control the situation.
