EU chief Ursula von der Leyen vowed Wednesday that Europe would keep supporting Ukraine and pressuring Russia until a “just and lasting peace.” She described the amended US peace plan as a beginning point, but Russia is not really interested in peacefully terminating the war. Von der Leyen claimed that it is a dangerous situation, but there is a chance to improve this situation further since the EU is discussing the use of frozen assets of Russia to secure a substantial loan to Ukraine. She emphasized that taxpayers in Europe must not incur all expenses, and the EU officials are optimistic of concluding the plan by the year’s end. She also again stressed that a peace agreement should involve the voice of Ukraine and Europe.
