ISRO’s 100th mission , the NVS-02 satellite, the satellite in the Navigation with Indian Constellation (NavIC) system of India, was facing an issue during its orbit-raising operations. While the launch of the GSLV rocket was successful, the satellite’s thrusters did not fire after valves malfunctioned. Consequently, the satellite is still in the elliptical Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO) and not in the intended orbit.
However, in terms of power and communication, the satellite is functioning normally in this orbit, and ISRO is working on alternate methods of utilizing the satellite in this orbit. The NVS-02 is India’s fifth NavIC series satellite, which is expected to offset India’s reliance on GPS and have a service zone beyond 1500 km from the country.
