Many security officers and protesters were injured in a fight at Tinkune during a protest on Friday. The protest was about bringing back the Hindu kingdom. Human rights groups said both Nepal Police and Armed Police Force members, as well as protesters, got hurt. Some of them are being treated at Kantipur Hospital. The situation became worse when pro-monarchy protesters tried to cross the security barrier and threw stones at the police.
In return, the police used tear gas to control the crowd. Before this, protesters damaged a building and set it on fire. The protest was supposed to be peaceful, but it turned violent when people broke windows. The protest was led by Nawaraj Subedi’s group, while businessman Durga Prasai gathered supporters.
