Parties accused the ex-king of planning against the republic

Political leaders from pro-republican parties met to discuss the former King Gyanendra Shah’s role in actions against the republic. They accused him of plotting to undermine the Constitution and overthrow the federal democratic system. Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak emphasized the importance of protecting the constitution and ensuring national development.

Shakti Basnet who is the leader of the CPN (Maoist Center), said political parties to examine themselves and backed the government’s measures against royalists. Gyanendra Shah was the target of legal proceedings by former Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai for his participation in a royalist demonstration on March 28 that caused property damage and two fatalities. Prime Minister Oli stated that royalists tried to incite violence on March 28, and those responsible would face legal punishment. The royalist movement is expected to continue.
