KIIT University reverses its decision after evicting Nepali students

Students returning to hostel of KIIT university

The Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT), a private university in the Indian state of Odisha, had initially asked its Nepali students to leave the hostels after the mysterious death of a Nepali student named Prakriti Lamsal. She had allegedly been harassed by an Indian student before her death. Students protested at the university’s decision, demanding justice.

But later, KIIT withdrew its order and allowed the students to stay if they wanted. It became a matter of concern for the Nepali Embassy, which intervened to ensure students’ safety. The university says the death could be connected to a romantic relationship, a connection that the students reject while emphasizing harassment and negligence. Security has been tightened, and Lamsal’s family is on their way to India.
