The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has now started to disburse the pending salaries after Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Saroj Guragain was reinstated. For months, pay had not been distributed without a legitimate leader following an alleged fallout between Guragain and Mayor Balen Shah. As of Monday, over half of the staff have received their payments, and all salaries are expected to be settled by the end of the week. The cuts affected more than 4,000 employees, 1,700 of whom were teachers. KMC has spent about Rs 400 million in salaries for the current fiscal year. The salary of Mayor Balen Shah, which had been withheld since January, was also published.
