Billions embezzled in the Pokhara airport works

Pokhara Airport

A subcommittee of Nepal’s Public Accounts Committee has found Rs14 billion worth of corruption and irregularities in the construction of Pokhara International Airport, improper exemptions of customs duties, poor construction of the runway, and misuse of funds. Despite the payment of soil transport and taxes of Rs 2.2 billion, the runway is built lower than the agreed elevation. Nepal’s Civil Aviation Authority and several high-ranking officials, including its Director General Pradeep Adhikari, have been blamed in the report by the panel that has recommended their suspensions and a detailed investigation by the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority.
