It is known that some of the Private Hospitals in Kathmandu have not been carrying out safety precautions while treating the patients. A random inspection by the environment shows those hospitals ave not even been carrying out autoclaving of used syringe needles and hazardous medical wastes.Autoclaving is the process of sterilisation to to disinfect small equipment, tools or medical waste, so that it can be disposed of safely.
Shristi Shrestha, Environment inspector at the department said “Three private hospitals have been fined in the current fiscal year for ignoring the instruction provided to manage the hazardous waste safely.”
