Based on the River Indy, Yamaha intends to launch a new RY01 electric scooter to compete in the lower-cost market. Indy’s powertrain and battery system will be used for the scooter, which River will produce in Bengaluru. In early 2024, Yamaha spent $40 million on River, which helped to speed up their EV projects. The RY01 is set to be introduced in the second part of the year, with exports taking place first. This action demonstrates the increasing importance of India in developing and building EVs. Rivals for the RY01 include the TVS iQube, the Ather Rizta, and the Bajaj Chetak.
