Security measures have been increased in the Kathmandu Valley as the CPN-UML and pro-Hindu monarchy groups prepare to hold separate rallies on Republic Day. The UML will celebrate “Republic Mahotsav” at Bhrikutimandap, and royalists will meet at Ratnapark. Certain to see confrontations over July 1, authorities will step up security and keep the entire city under observation. The prime minister instructed security forces to prevent royalist protesters from entering the Ring Road. Despite saying 25,000 attended, the police estimate RPP had fewer than 7,000 people in the crowd.
