Natural Gas in Dailekh

A massive natural gas reserve of about 112 billion cubic meters was discovered in the Jaljale area of Dailekh by an exploration team of Chinese technicians sanctioned by a grant of 2.5 billion Nepali rupees by the Chinese government. They have gone more than 4 kilometers underground, and they retrieved rock samples that they have returned to China to be studied further. It has been reported that the gas would be able to sustain Nepal for up to 50 years. This is a project that started with an agreement in 2019 but was set off by the pandemic.
