Following criticism by leading coach Patrick De Wilde of mismanagement in the recently concluded AFC Women’s Asian Cup Qualifiers, ANFA officials have hit back at the coach, defending their move and stating that they were disgusted by the fact that he had taken the issues to the media first. They said during a press meet that they were confused about the captain selection because Wilde did not confirm his decision in time, and thus, they appointed Renuka Nagarkote. Wilde said that he had told them that it would be Sabitra Bhandari. The officials also responded to the complaints of shortages of equipment, such as ice, stating that there were requests made without prior notice. ANFA officials did not deny Wilde’s coaching skills but criticized some of his statements and also said that it is not clear whether he will continue as the coach.
