Action Will be Taken Against Online Platforms That Conduct Live Polls

The Election Commission has ordered the shutdown of 11 online platforms for conducting ‘live’ polls related to the upcoming House of Representatives elections on March 5, saying they violated the election code of conduct. According to the Commission, such polls can influence voters and affect their right to freely choose their representatives. Under the Election Commission Act, 2073, a fine of Rs. 100,000 and even cancellation of candidature can occur in case of violation of the code. The important role of the media in ensuring free and fair elections was also highlighted by the officials, and journalists were urged to follow ethical standards, avoid bias, respect confidentiality, and not publish news that could harm any group or be used for personal benefits.
