China’s No. 2 Chipmaker Readies 7 NM Production as Beijing Ramps Up Self Sufficiency Drive

China's chipmaker readies 7NM production

Hua Hong Group has developed new technology to produce advanced 7 nanometer chips that can be used for artificial intelligence, marking an important step in China’s effort to become more independent in the tech sector. Its chipmaking unit, Huali Microelectronics, is preparing this process at its Shanghai plant and could start limited production by the end of the year. Currently, SMIC is the only Chinese company producing chips at this level. The project reportedly involves collaboration with Huawei Technologies as China works to reduce reliance on foreign chip suppliers.
