The crash of an Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner soon after takeoff from Ahmedabad en route to London was the worst aviation accident in a decade, resulting in the death of more than 240 people. The aircraft struck a medical college hostel at the time of lunch, killing passengers and persons on the ground. The only survivor, a British national of Indian origin sitting close to an emergency exit, is under hospital treatment.
Authorities have confirmed that a Mayday call was made. Boeing, GE Aerospace, and global aviation experts are assisting the Indian authorities in identifying what went wrong. Prime Minister Modi and leaders worldwide mourned the tragedy.
