The Chinese population is steadily declining despite government initiatives to persuade people to produce more offspring. During 2025, China witnessed a reduction in population by 3 million, with a population of 1.404 billion for the fourth consecutive year. Also, birth rates dropped significantly to 7.92 million. People claim that with increasing living expenses and working pressures, rearing offspring is not easy for them. Although the Chinese government lifted the one child policy and now permits giving birth to a total of three offspring, policies such as providing cash subsidies for rearing offspring have failed to change the decreasing number of births in China, estimated at one offspring per woman.
