In Kathmandu, the police discovered a horrible incident where teenage girls were promised money to donate their egg cells, under the assumption that they would help couples who could not have children. According to the Central Investigation Bureau, the money paid to these girls was estimated to be Rs 15,000-16,000, with middlemen receiving Rs 30,000-35,000.

Five individuals associated with Hope Fertility and Diagnostic Pvt. Ltd. were arrested, although legal responses to the case were delayed because the extraction of ova is not explicitly covered by the law in organ trafficking. The situation is currently under investigation within the framework of the Children Act, and suspects are released on bail. Laws in Nepal concerning egg donation are not clear, as noted by authorities.
