India Proposes Forcing Smartphone Makers to Give Source Code in Security Overhaul

India is going to enforce new security rules for smartphones, which will mandate the companies to share the source code with the government, compulsorily report significant software updates, and make specific software changes that would allow users more control and safety. This is in light of increasing fraud-related activities online and attempts by the government to ensure the security of user data. This has, however, raised criticism from major tech companies such as Apple, Samsung, and Google, who claim that it is without precedent to share code, store system logs, and approve updates.
