Mind-Reading Tech Uses Password to Trigger Speech Output

Mind-Reading Tech

Researchers have developed a brain-computer interface that translates inner speech into sentences. Decoding starts only after the user thinks of a preset password to protect privacy. The system reached up to 74 percent accuracy in converting inner thoughts to spoken-like output. Microelectrodes were implanted in the motor cortex of four participants with speech impairments. An artificial intelligence system identifies phonemes and builds words from a dictionary of about 125,000 terms. The work aims to improve speed and accuracy and expand to more languages and communication needs.
