New Omicron Sub-Variant Detected in Five COVID-19 Patients in Nepal

The National Public Health Laboratory has confirmed gene sequencing that a new sub-variant of the Omicron version of COVID-19 has turned up in five individuals within Nepal. The samples were collected as part of 14 tested positive from June 5 to 12. Although this sub-variant is highly contagious, the World Health Organization has indicated that it is not any more risky than the previous ones. Health officials are encouraging people to be cautious because Nepal has registered 167 cases of COVID-19 start mid-December 2024.
