All the schools in Nepal are closed today after an educational strike was declared all over the country by the ANNFSU (Revolutionary), a student group affiliated with the CPN (Maoist). Most of the private schools had notified parents early, but others failed to do so, and this left the students confused. Government schools were least affected because they were on summer break. The strike was meant to coerce the government to offer free education, halt the current move towards privatization of education, and finally enact the long-awaited Education Act, whereby the population would have more access to education.
