Waymo has told U.S. lawmakers that its robotaxis are not remotely driven by staff, even though it uses remote assistance teams for support. The company said these workers only give advice when a vehicle faces a confusing situation and do not control or steer the cars. In rare training cases, U.S. based staff may move a stopped vehicle slowly, but this has not happened in regular road use. Some members of Congress have raised concerns about remote staff, including workers in the Philippines, but Waymo said its cars remain fully controlled by their onboard systems.
