Following the tragic death of Nepali student Prakriti Lamsal, over 1,500 Nepali students have already returned home, fearing for their safety at the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Odisha. On the other hand, Purbanchal University and others, such as Tribhuvan University, have been providing these returnees the opportunity to transfer their credit hours and continue their studies in Nepal. This came as a blessing for the students, particularly in the engineering, management, and nursing sectors.

The episode of harassment and “atrocious behavior” against students from Nepal has been seen as a comb in the eye of Nepali students and resulted in protests on the campuses demanding justice for Lamsal. The KIIT management has placed on hold the staff members involved in the mistreatment of the students, while Odisha Police have registered a harassment case. The Odisha government has assured that justice will be done.
