The District Attorney’s Office of Kathmandu has registered a cybercrime case against the journalist Dil Bhusan Pathak, stating that he was promoting hatred based on the contents of his YouTube channel, even though a court has imposed an order that he could not be arrested.

According to a case that is based on a report by the Cyber Bureau, the video shared by Pathak was in breach of the Electronic Transactions Act. Media experts, however, believe that the move amounts to abuse of power and a potential threat to freedom of the press and that this should be a task of civil courts or the press council. The concerned video had drawn attention to the financial dealings of political leaders, among them being the son of the former Prime Minister, Sher Bahadur Deuba.
