A 22-year-old man, Rahul Budha, has been arrested in Kathmandu for hacking more than 4000 eSewa accounts and embezzling over Rs 10.2 million. He sent SMS phishing messages with bogus alerts to steal users’ login credentials. After he gained access to the accounts, he sent the stolen funds to a merchant account in the name of Pashupati Global Innovation Pvt. Ltd. Budha has been arrested by the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office from the Kalimati area, and legal action has been initiated against him. Police are still investigating the incident.
