The ‘Digital Karnali’ campaign, launched in 2018 to transform Karnali into Nepal’s first digital province, remains stalled due to poor infrastructure and a lack of connectivity. Most rural areas still lack electricity, internet, and mobile services, despite significant budget allocations. In remote districts like Humla and Dolpa, internet usage is minimal, and solar-powered systems often fail due to harsh weather. Residents face daily struggles just to access basic communication services. Critics say the digital push overlooks ground realities, urging the government to first invest in reliable infrastructure before pushing digitalisation
