The eight-night, nine-day-long festivities of the famous Biska (Bisket) Jatra of Bhaktapur have officially kicked off. The festival began on Thursday evening in Taumadhi by pulling the chariot of Bhairabnath (Bhail Kha) in front of the Nyatapol temple. The deities Bhairabnath and Betal are housed in a three-story, wooden, pagoda-style chariot. Its procession towards the Thane (upper) and Kwane (lower) neighborhoods marks the beginning of the historic and culturally significant festival.
