Cash Crunch Forces Nepal to Suspend On-Site Drug Testing

Nepal has halted its on-site drug testing initiative due to a cash crunch, following the withdrawal of financial support from USAID and a lack of government funding. The programme aimed to ensure medicine quality through field-based screenings, but now faces suspension. With only 28 inspectors monitoring over 24,000 pharmacies, officials warn that pausing testing and other health initiatives could endanger public safety. Budget constraints have also stalled plans for lab upgrades and public awareness campaigns.
