In Qatar, Nepal has flown two Asian elephants born in the breeding centre in Chitwan on Wednesday as a goodwill gift. Young Khagendra Prasad (a 6 year old male) and Rudrakali (a 7 year old female) were transported to Doha, where they will be kept at Al Khor Zoo, where a month long stay of Nepali mahouts and a veterinary technician will help them settle in. Officials said the transfer followed all legal and international rules and was agreed upon during the Qatari Amir’s visit to Nepal in 2024. The gift marks the first time Nepal has sent elephants to another country and symbolises the long standing friendship between Nepal and Qatar as they near 50 years of diplomatic relations.
