AHF Nepal at Bharatpur Hospital revealed that in the last five months, 52 new cases of HIV/AIDS have been reported in Chitwan, of which 23 persons are locals and the remaining are residents of other districts. These were detected by voluntary visits to the hospitals and also in the community screening. The center is also providing antiretroviral therapy (ART) to 1,188 individuals, men, women, children, and third gender at the moment.
There are those patients who had relocated to other neighbouring hospitals to seek treatment but ended up coming back because of service related problems. Bharatpur Hospital also facilitates patients with food, ambulance and food aid to needy patients. There is however concern over shortage of viral load testing kits in other centers which are necessary in monitoring treatment progress.
