Melamchi Drinking Water

The anti corruption authority of Nepal, the CIAA, has petitioned the Supreme Court, challenging the acquittal of 17 individuals in a corruption case related to the Melamchi Drinking Water Supply Project. Among them are previous secretaries of the water supply, officials of the project and Bhoj Bikram Thapa, who signed an agreement with the Gen Z protest movement. The case was previously filed by the CIAA in February 2024, which charged that financial irregularities existed in the project, although the Special Court exonerated the accused, and the CIAA appealed.
