The Election Commission has asked local level people’s representatives to stay away from election publicity activities ahead of the March 5 House of Representatives polls. The appeal comes as part of efforts to ensure a fair, transparent and disciplined election environment under the Election Code of Conduct, 2082. The commission said it has received complaints that some local officials were involved in promoting parties and candidates in violation of the rules. While representatives may support their parties outside their own local unit, the use of government resources for campaigning is strictly prohibited. The EC has warned all concerned to follow the code seriously and avoid any actions that could undermine the election process.
