Through a release today, the Ministry of Home Affairs directed all 77 district administration offices to report on what they are doing to maintain religious harmony after recent incidents disturbed social peace in parts of Tarai and Madhesh. In its 10 point directive, the ministry has asked Chief District Officers to take legal action against unlawful activities, hold coordination meetings with political, social, cultural, and religious leaders, and run awareness programs in local languages through local media. The districts have also been directed to form a seven member peace and social harmony committee and draw up an annual plan well in advance by identifying festivals or events that could be potentially sensitive.
