Huawei to Make 3nm Chips in 2026

Because of EUV lithography export restrictions, Huawei is implementing the 5nm production line process with SMEE’s SSA800 machines rather than ASML tools. UDN says Huawei is also working on developing 3nm chips using both GAA architecture and carbon nanotubes and aims to have them made in 2026. Lab tests on the carbon nanotube chip are complete, and SMIC is optimizing it for use in production. Furthermore, the just-launched Huawei MateBook Fold has the Kirin X90, powered by the chip. It is called a “5nm chip” even though it uses 7nm tech and advanced packaging to reach some 5 nm-level performance, the analysis by GSMArena shows.
