With the 25 year license of Ncell due in 2029 and telecom law requiring that companies with more than 50 percent foreign ownership become fully state owned, the Nepal Telecom Authority (NTA) has initiated preparations to nationalize Ncell. The NTA is undertaking a technical, financial, and administrative study (supported by a Cabinet decision under the tenure of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal), financed by about 1 million of the current budget, to facilitate a seamless operation of Ncell as a commercial entity after the ownership transfer.
