Nepal Performs Its First Sex Change Surgery

Sex Change Surgery

A 25-year-old transgender woman from Janakpur became the first person in Nepal to have sex reassignment surgery performed by Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital. These surgeries used to be offered only outside the country. The surgeon and the Nepali doctors worked together to make female genitalia through vaginoplasty. There was no request from the patient for other operations like breast or facial surgeries. The hospital believes the service will help more transgender people in Nepal receive gender-affirming care at a much lower price, and it is going to establish a clinic for these procedures.
