Nepal Set to Overhaul Outdated Intellectual Property Law

Nepal's intellectual property law

Nepal is overhauling its outdated intellectual property laws to combat widespread brand imitation and trademark violations. A new Industrial Property Bill, aligned with global TRIPS standards, is under Cabinet review and aims to establish a dedicated IP office and introduce stricter penalties. Counterfeit goods have deterred foreign investment and harmed genuine businesses, prompting urgent reform. The bill will cover patents, trademarks, trade secrets, and geographical indications, not copyrights.
