Parliament to address teachers’ demands

Nepal’s teachers’ agitation has now entered its third week, and the government has agreed to a session of Parliament being called on 25 April to pass the School Education Bill, which will address two of the key demands. Such are salary increases for early childhood development facilitators, allowances for temporary teachers, and equal benefits and promotions with civil servants. The protest has stalled school enrollment, delayed exam marking, and also put upcoming grade 12 at risk. The government, the ruling parties, and the parliamentary committee are in talks to bring the bill to a conclusion, while the National Human Rights Commission said it has called for resolution through dialogue to protect the right to education for all children.
