In a special session of Nepal’s National Assembly, lawmakers questioned the promoters of the Pathibhara cable car project, alleging they had failed to heed local sensibility. CPN member Jayanti Devi Rai termed the project ‘unethical’ for going ahead without the local public’s acceptance, turning the religious site into a site for protests, and urged the government to provide basic infrastructure like roads, water, and education.

CPN lawmaker Renu Chand said that the project disrupted the cultural and religious significance of the area and accused the local administration of using force against the protesters and demanded treatment and compensation for the injured.

Other lawmakers raised issues including delay in earthquake relief at Jajarkot, police’s interference in an inter-caste marriage at Sarlahi, and lack of health services in Karnali province.
