A fake X (formerly Twitter) account in the name of Chief Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut was created, after which confusion and misinformation spread. On Sunday, the Supreme Court (SC) clarified that CJ Raut was unaware of the account. The account, which was created using a photo of CJ Raut and a misleading bio of the Supreme Court, posted multiple misleading posts, including a post that supported a cryptocurrency token ($NEPAL) claiming government approval.
The SC urged the public to not believe the account and ordered the police to probe into it. There are crime cases where the police have already begun investigating the company in question for creating fake accounts and promoting cryptocurrency, which is illegal in Nepal.
