Nepal’s Free Student Union (FSU) elections are scheduled for March 18 as various student unions gear up for the polls. Via its student wing, the Nepal Students Union (NSU), Nepali Congress (NC) is now interacting with student leaders of other parties. To coordinate NC’s efforts for the elections, a steering committee has been constituted. Even though political parties have made alliances, both the NSU and CPN-UML sister wing, the All Nepal National Free Students’ Union (ANNFSU), have announced they were not going to make alliances for the FSU elections.

The March 18 date for the election was moved forward from an initial February 27 date to allow the new leader to be in place in the event of a leadership void. Student unions are working on their manifestos with things like nomination fees. The elections will take place at 62 constituent and 1,040 affiliate colleges across the country.
