A wildfire has continued blazing in the Timang forest of Chame Rural Municipality, in Manang, since February 1, but it has not been controlled either by the Nepal Army, Police, Armed Police Force, or the locals. Fueled by dry weather, strong winds, and little or no snowfall, the fire has burned about 10 hectares of forest. Officials are working to prevent it from spreading into nearby communities.
In Sindhupalchok, wildfires have destroyed 82 hectares of forest, including areas of Gaurishankar Conservation Area. The blazes that broke out on Feb 1 were finally brought under control, thanks to the efforts of security personnel and locals. A massive fire in Liping along the Nepal-China border burnt 35 hectares but was contained in the face of various challenges, including failed attempts to douse it using a helicopter.
Similarly, in Dolakha, a fire in the Gaurishankar Conservation Area tore through 600 hectares of forest, disrupting wildlife habitat, especially that of the red panda, until it was brought under control nine days later.
