President Donald Trump has once more extended a 90-day reprieve of the U.S. ban on Chinese-owned video app TikTok because he is worried that its use can pose a threat to national security. This is the 3rd occasion that Trump has delayed this move, even though there is bipartisan legislation set to prohibit TikTok as long as it does not sell its U.S. assets. The recurrent failures to meet deadlines are claimed by critics to have no legal ground and make people doubt the actions of the government. At the same time, another app supposedly affiliated with Chinese entities, Temu, is followed by lawsuits by state officials in the United States on the grounds of data privacy. Both applications have been placed under increasing scrutiny on the continued issue of U.S.-China tensions.
